An isolated setting is a very common choice of location for action to occur as it makes the characters completely helpless and alone. From as early as Frankenstein and the isolated lab where the monster is reborn. 








Or in Scream with it's house party located in the middle of no where, long shots expressing the barren environment free for the murder to churn up chaos. With the victims screaming and begging for help, the main character eve limping away, no help ever arrives, there is no one around to hear and help. Other ways isolation is shown is with the phone being picked up to call the police but no one answers as its been disconnected and all we can hear is the faint beeps from the phone.
